Summer 2014 Ealing Festivals, Carnivals and Fairs: Activities for the whole family in Ealing, Acton, Greenford & Hanwell

It’s all happening in Ealing this summer.  There’s a fair or festival happening every weekend from this weekend June 21-22nd until the end of July.  You don’t have leave the borders of the borough to be entertained this summer! And many of these events are free or cost a fiver or under! Bring on the Ealing summer fun!

Saturday 21 June Hanwell Carnival

What’s on offer: Established in 1898, the Hanwell Carnival has a long history of fun.  The whole thing kicks off with a procession carnival-style from Hanwell Community Centre and winds up at Elthorne park for live music, dog show, petting zoo, craft tent, artisan food tent, pony rides, football sponsored by QPR in the Community Trust, acoustic tent, fun fair, charity stalls and brand new for this year, a choir festival.  To get an idea of the fun, tongue-in-cheek style of this carnival check out this synchronised performance from the Red Barrows:

How much does it cost? Free. According to the website, “Hanwell Carnival has no entrance charge, just rock up on the day. The more the merrier!”

Saturday 22 June Party in the Park Pitshanger

What’s on offer: With activities ranging from music and dance acts by local schools and other groups with live music in the beer tent, gastrodome, arts & crafts village, carousel, a dog show, tug of war, football, go-karts and kids climbing wall, Party in the Park has something for everyone.  We’ll be sponsoring the stage again this year and we’ll also be there raising money for our chosen charity The Log Cabin while supporting Pitshanger Community Association.  Come say hi!

When: Sunday June 22, 1-9pm

Where: Pitshanger Park, W5

Saturday 28 June Greenford Carnival

What’s on offer: Local talent will be taking to the stage for singing and dancing.  Kids can have fun in the Families Area or the Health and Sport Zones.  There will also be a mini zoo, tug of war, Zumba classes, circus skills and food stalls

When: Sunday June 28, 12-7pm

Where: Ravenor Park, Greenford, UB6

How much does it cost? £2 per person. £5 family ticket (two adults and up to three children aged between 12 and 16 years old). Children aged 12 and under are free. Pay at the gates on the day.

Wednesday July 2 – Saturday 5 July Ealing Beer Festival

What’s on offer: 300 varieties of real ale are available.  You must be 18 years old or over to enter and those under 21 will require proof of age.

When: Wednesday July 2- Saturday July 5, 12-6pm

Where: Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, Ealing W5

How much does it cost? £4 for non-members  and £2 for Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) members. You must be 18 years or over to enter the beer tent and those under 21 years will require proof of age. People aged under 18 years and accompanied by an adult are allowed into the festival site (not the beer tent) for free but must leave by 8pm. Pay at the gates on the day.

Saturday 5 July Acton Carnival

What’s on offer: Acton Carnival will kick off with a 500 person strong procession from Woodlands Park at noon and winding up in Acton Park via Crown Street and the High Street.  Acton Community Forum and Ealing Council will be hosting the event where Omar Lye-Fook known for his timeless hit There’s Nothing Like This will be performing on the stage.

When: Saturday July 5, 12-7pm

Where: Acton Park, Acton W3

How much does it cost? £2 per person. £5 family ticket (two adults and up to three children aged between 12 and 16 years old). Children aged 12 and under are free. Pay at the gates on the day.

Saturday 5 July Northfields Night Market

What’s on offer: Northfields Night Market is back with a new market layout! Put the date in the diary and enjoy the long summer nights with great shopping, live jazz band and fab food, oh yes and all from local businesses.  This event is a great way to support local, independent businesses!

When: Saturday July 5, 6:30-9:30pm

Where: Kingsdown Methodist Church Hall, Kingsdown Avenue, W13 9PR

Friday July 11 – Saturday July 12 & Wednesday July 16 – Friday July 18 Ealing Comedy Festival

What’s on offer: Five nights of top notch stand-up comedy with the likes of Rich Hall and Milton Jones.  Word of advice – don’t sit in the front row unless you are very brave!

When: Friday July 11 – Saturday July 12 & Wednesday July 16 – Friday July 18, Gates open at 6.30pm, shows run from 7.45-10.30pm.

Where: Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, Ealing W5

How much does it cost? £19.00 per person, per show (plus online or phone booking fees). Ealing Comedy Festival is suitable for people aged 18 and over. Children aged 15-17 can attend if they are with an adult. Photography during performances is not allowed.  Purchase your tickets here

Saturday July 12 Northfield Avenue Summer Fun Day

What’s on offer: Northfield Avenue Traders Association is hosting this community event complete with live music, children’s entertainers, crafts stall and art competition and activities offered by the businesses along Northfields Avenue including Northfields Estates! We’ll be helping to raise money for our nominated charity The Log Cabin, come along and enjoy this free event!

When: Saturday July 12 from 12 noon

Saturday July 19 – Sunday July 20 Ealing Blues Festival

What’s on offer: Did you know that the Ealing Blues Festival is the biggest dedicated blues event in Britain?  Bring along a picnic blanket or pull up a chair in one of the tents and check out a wide variety of blues styles from established and up-and-coming blues acts.

When: Saturday July 19 – Sunday July 20, gates open from 1:30pm, shows run from 2-10:30pm

Where: Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, Ealing W5

How much does it cost? £5 per person, per day or £8 per person for both days. Children aged 12 and under are free. Pay at the gates on the day.

Wednesday July 23 – Sunday July 27 Ealing Jazz Festival

What’s on offer: Five days of fantastic music, with big band favourites, funky Latin tunes, jazz and funk fusion, bebop, hard bop, contemporary jazz and more.  Fingers crossed for sun!

When: 23 July – gates open at 6pm, show runs from 7.00-10.30pm. 24 July – gates open at 5pm, show runs from 5.30-10.30pm. 25 July, 26 and 27 July – gates open at 1.30pm, show runs from 2-10.30pm.

Where: Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, Ealing W5

How much does it cost? £4 per person, per day on 23 and 24 July. £5 per person, per day on 25-27 July. £8 weekend ticket per person for both 26 and 27 July. Children aged 12 and under are free. Pay at the gates on the day.

Sunday August 31 London Mela

What’s on offer: This year’s festival going to be bigger than ever! Get ready to experience a mix of contemporary, classical and new music in partnership with BBC Asian Network.  There will also be dance acts, visual arts, a family zone, international food, markets and a fun fair.  The children’s procession will take place at 5:30pm and the final procession at 8:30pm departing from the Magic Mela Family Area. 

When: Sunday 31 August, 1-9pm

Where: Gunnersbury Park, Acton W3
