A recent study by Which? confirmed what most modern agents already know; that the majority of people’s property searches begin online.

In a study of 2000 recent home movers, 37% said that their property search began online. Comparatively, the second most popular, more traditional method of visiting an office and browsing the window only represented 11%.

An agents website is more important than ever in marketing a property and finding prospective new tenants, landlords, buyers, and sellers. Some may say we were ahead of the curve, following the extensive investment in our website over the last few years. This investment paid off earlier this year at the Lettings Agency of the Year Awards 2016 when we were awarded silver for our website.

We all know that photos are hugely important to the marketing of a property, but at Northfields we have taken this one step further and also invested heavily in video. Creating engaging content which is accessible to our customers is a top priority for us, and we’re so pleased that we’ve been recognised for doing it well.

The Which? survey also detailed the importance of getting the property listings right, for your own website and for the portals. 70% of home movers had decided not to view a property after viewing online, with reasons including price and location. Between 19-22% of home movers (depending on whether they were first-time buyers) did not view a property based on the photos – or lack thereof.
