Last week I took a trip to meet Caroline and the team at our Shepherd’s Bush office. I had heard that Askew Road was a pretty lovely place to be, and yet it is in the heart of London, so I wanted to see for myself. I was pleasantly surprised!
The roads are full of lovely Victorian houses, painted all pastel shades, very contemporary with their shutter blinds and tiled pathways leading to Farrow & Ball painted front doors.
On the way into the office, I spotted Leith’s cookery school and was very pleased to see a Northfields TO LET board right next door. I wonder if the new tenant moving in is a cooking enthusiast? Definitely renting in the right place if so!
I particularly liked this road, it had the most attractive houses, tree-lined and an amazing bicycle safety shelter, I had not seen one before! I guess that because the transport links are so good in the area, lots of people just have bikes to get around rather than cars. I mean, you can jump on a bus, on the tube or the over-ground within a 5-minute walk from most of the roads, so the expense of a car is pretty unnecessary!
So walking around to Askew Road, I noticed a lot of rather trendy looking cafes and restaurants, a beautiful looking wine shop (I did not go inside) and then some ‘throwback’ shops to the old London, a launderette and a hardware store. Of course, there are also lots of multi-cultural grocery shops with an abundance of beautiful fruit and veg outside to show off their colours and our favourite, Laveli Bakery with an amazing array of cakes, coffees and baked goods.
So if you are thinking of moving home and looking for a great area, right in the centre of the London buzz, but retaining a village community, look no further than Askew Road, Shepherds Bush, and the roads around it.
